Pool Closing & Winterization

Protect your pool through the winter.

A proper closing is the single most important thing you can do to protect your pool from freeze damage. We winterize every line, treat the water, and secure your cover so you can forget about your pool until spring, knowing it is safe.

What's included

What happens at a closing, and why each step matters.

  1. 1

    Lower water level

Water lowered below the skimmer and returns. This prevents freeze damage to the tile line and fittings while keeping enough water to protect the pool structure.

  2. 2

    Blow out lines

A high-powered blower forces all water out of the plumbing: skimmers, returns, main drain, water features. This is the most critical step. Water left in the lines will freeze and crack the pipes.

  3. 3

    Add winterizing chemicals

Winterizing chemicals keep algae down and protect your pool surfaces through the off-season. Makes your spring opening easier and cleaner.

  4. 4

    Install winter cover

Winter or safety cover installed, properly fitted and anchored. A well-installed cover keeps debris out and prevents accidents over the winter.

  5. 5

    Disconnect equipment

Drain plugs removed from pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator. Any water that could freeze gets drained. Salt cells and sensitive components stored properly.

  6. 6

    Final inspection

Final walk-around of your pool, equipment pad, and cover. If anything needs attention in spring, we flag it now.

Why this matters

A Canadian winter is brutal on a pool. Temperatures can drop well below minus 20 degrees Celsius, and water expands when it freezes. If there is water left in your plumbing lines, it will crack the pipes. If the water level is wrong, it can damage the tile line or even the pool shell.

We see the consequences every spring: cracked return lines, blown-out skimmers, damaged pump housings, and green swamps that take days to recover. Almost all of these problems trace back to a closing that was rushed or done incorrectly.

A proper closing costs a fraction of what a single freeze-damage repair costs.

  • Prevents costly freeze damage to plumbing and equipment
  • Makes your spring opening faster and cheaper
  • Protects your pool shell and tile from ice damage
  • Keeps algae from taking over during the off-season

No rushing, no shortcuts

We take the time to blow out every line, disconnect every piece of equipment, and secure the cover so it holds all winter. A rushed closing leads to cracked pipes in January. We catch problems during the closing that would otherwise become expensive surprises in spring.

When we close your pool, it stays closed properly all winter.
